What to expect during a bodywork session?

The video below shows a standard gentle bodywork session. We will address your whole body, because no injury affects just one single area of the body. Think of how differently your whole body moves when something hurts. When in pain, we compensate head-to-toe and completely change how we move around. During a session we will work together to:

1) Identify the root of the problem causing pain

2) Use bodywork to support the recovery process

3) Use rehab training to address the root cause

4) Return you to your life more aware and pain-free

My approach blends the most effective elements of chiropractic care, physical therapy, and massage therapy into a single, cohesive session.

Instead of quick adjustments or isolated techniques, I use gentle joint mobilization, assisted stretching, deep tissue and myofascial work, and targeted soft-tissue techniques to address pain, mobility, and function from head-to-toe.

Research consistently shows that conservative pain care is most effective when these approaches are combined. As a chiropractor, my training and scope of practice allow me to integrate them seamlessly, so your care is more effective, longer-lasting, and tailored specifically to your needs.

We feel the best when we are tuned into our bodies and consciously putting our own health & wellbeing as a top priority. My goal is to help you do exactly that. Together we will:

-Find movement you enjoy and incorporate it into your day

-Find the best diet for your body that makes you feel good

-Find healthy ways to manage life’s inevitable stress

-Educate yourself on your own health history and your family health history

-Establish your team of physical and mental healthcare providers to help you

-Listen to your body and advocate for yourself!

How?

-Gentle bodywork sessions - These establish your baseline for being relaxed and allow your body to recover from injury. Even though I am a chiropractor, I use the term “bodywork” because this is very different from chiropractic adjustments you may have see online or experienced in the past. I won’t be jumping on you or jerking you across the room. I know that works for some people, but that’s not me.

-Fixing repetitive motions - In most cases, we find that pain generators are compounding repetitive motions from work & hobbies. I’ll help you find the opposing motions to incorporate into your day to balance this out. This will not be 30+ exercises you have to do every day, either. I don’t even do that. The principle is minimum effort and maximum efficiency. You would be surprised how many basic positive movements you can incorporate into your daily routine without even realizing it.

-Talking about life - Look up “biopsychosocial model of health”. Health not just physiological processes. Our cultural beliefs, personal experiences, and general life stressors all contribute to our wellbeing. My office is safe place to talk freely about what’s on your mind or to not talk at all if that is what you need. I’m here to answer your questions as best I can and if I don’t know the answer, I’ll try to find it or find you someone else who can.

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1) New Gentle Bodywork Session (75 min)

If we haven’t met before, I want to get to know you as best as I can to help you with your problem. We will review your health history, perform a full physical exam and then get to the bodywork!

    2) Long Bodywork Session (60 min)

Just looking to zone out and get worked on? No problem! A full hour of the normal full-body stretching, massaging, and gentle joint mobilization you know and love!

    3) Short Bodywork Session (30 min)

Need a quick tune-up? Enjoy an expedited and more focused version of the full-body stretching, massaging, and gentle joint mobilization you know and love!

    4) Walk-in Bodywork Session (15 min)

Think of it like a sampler session to try this style and see if it works for your needs.

Be aware that this is a short session for non-medical maintenance care and will not include a medical or chiropractic examination. If you find this work beneficial or would like more thorough care addressing multiple issues, schedule a full 75-min intake session.

    5) Movement Training Sessions

Sometimes we will split your session into both bodywork and movement training.

I combine principles from self-defense & fall survival training, personal fitness training, and traditional physical medicine training into what I call movement training. We will implement daily movement that addresses breathing, strengthening, and stretching to correct pain causing patterns and prevent future injury.

Feel free to email andy@hbwpdx.com or leave a voicemail at 503.238.1601 if you have questions about scheduling.

  • Payment is due at the time of service for appointments. Most folks choose to just pay my hourly rate and some use their medical insurance benefits.

Medical insurance is a way to help offset the cost of care, not a reflection of its value. I work with several insurance plans and for many patients this means their insurance contributes toward a portion of each visit. For some, that contribution is substantial. For others, it’s partial.

Rather than letting insurance dictate how care is delivered, we will structure visits intentionally and apply insurance benefits as we can. This allows us to stay focused, effective, and sustainable, while still helping you make use of the coverage you have.

If you’re in-network (Regence BlueCross BlueShield & MODA), your insurance may cover most of the visit.

If you’re out-of-network, your insurance may still contribute meaningfully.

Either way, your care is guided by what you need, not by arbitrary billing rules.

    I accept these payment methods:

    • Cash (preferred)

    • Check

    • Credit/debit

    • Health savings account [HSA]

    • Auto Insurance Claim - Oregon is a “no-fault” state. Anyone involved in a motor vehicle accident with an auto insurance claim is eligible to have their care covered 100%.

    • Trades for goods (home grown produce & meat, art, tools, musical instruments/equipment, jewelry/precious metals, gems/minerals) and services (tattoos, artwork, landscaping/gardening, electrical work, bodywork, home/office cleaning, etc.). If you have a skill or service not listed, reach out to me and we can chat.

    • Medical Insurance - I am in-network with most Regence BlueCross BlueShield plans and most MODA plans for now as they cover . If you another insurance company that offers out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a superbill and any additional necessary documentation to submit for partial reimbursement of services.

    *MEDICARE NOTICE*

While I see many folks 65+, please be aware I do not bill Medicare. Medicare does not cover the type of comprehensive care I provide, and therefore services are self-pay. Patients are responsible for payment at the time of service.

    3) Auto Insurance Claim

Anyone involved in a motor vehicle accident in Oregon with an auto insurance claim is eligible to have their care covered 100% with no out-of-pocket expenses.

    4) Wellness Membership

For patients who value consistent care and long-term results, the Haven Bodyworks PDX Membership offers comprehensive wellness care at a reduced rate. Membership is $175/month and includes one 60-minute bodywork session per month, priority scheduling, and one annual wellness check-up. Members may schedule additional sessions at a discounted rate of $150/hour and may share the membership with one authorized family member or friend (each must complete their own intake and HIPAA forms).

Memberships renew automatically each month using the card on file and may be canceled at any time with 30 days’ written notice. One session credit is included per month; unused credits may roll over for up to two months, after which they expire. Memberships may be paused for up to two months per calendar year. Missed or late-canceled sessions (less than 24 hours’ notice) forfeit that month’s credit. The membership is not insurance and cannot be billed to insurance carriers; care is elective and focused on wellness, performance, recovery, and preventative care. New injuries or medically necessary treatment may require separate evaluation, documentation, and billing.

  • Please wear or bring along comfortable clothing that allows you free movement. Gym shorts, sweatpants, yoga pants, t-shirts, tank tops, and sports bras are all great and allow us to move freely while we work!

Jeans and stiff clothing are not recommended.

  • Yes! Oregon is a "no-fault" state when it comes to car accidents, and all auto insurance policies carry personal injury protection (PIP) coverage. This means that regardless of who was at fault, your medical treatment will be covered by your auto policy's PIP coverage, usually at no cost to you!

The first step is to file a claim with your auto insurance company, then schedule an appointment at Longevity Chiropractic for some much-needed treatment!

Scheduling is easy! We will need the name of your insurance company, your claim number, and the name and contact information of your adjustor, and we'll do the rest.

We do not bill third-party claims that are pending settlement to pay for your medical treatment.

  • I would love to help you recover from your workplace injury; however, worker's compensation regulations in the State of Oregon are complicated. Your treatment may not be covered. Call us with the details of your injury, and we will help find out if your treatment will be covered.
